Make Delicious Popcorn Chicken at Home

This popcorn chicken recipe is so easy to make at home and comes out crispy and delicious. Using a pack of chicken thighs from Costco yielded a serving size for 4-6. This is great to serve as a snack or an appetizer for a small gathering. Just a warning, if you happen to end up with leftovers, you can put them in the toaster oven to reheat and it will come out crispy again!

Popcorn Chicken

Preparation Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes

Ingredient

  • Pack of boneless chicken thighs
  • 1 tsp five spice powder
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tsp fresh, grated ginger
  • 3 cloves garlic, smashed or pressed
  • 1 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp fresh squeezed orange juice
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 2 tbsp all purpose flour
  • 1 cup sweet potato starch
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cut chicken thighs into small, bit sized cubes
  2. Add soy sauce, salt, garlic, ginger, five spice powder,onion powder, egg white, flour and orange juice to chicken thighs and mix until all pieces of chicken are covered. Let sit for 15 mins
  3. Pour sweet potato starch in a shallow bowl or plate. Coat marinated chicken thighs with potato starch and let sit for 15 minutes.
  4. Heat pot with oil on medium heat until oil measures around 350 degrees F
  5. Add batches of chicken thighs to oil and fry for 3 minutes (depending on size of cubes)
  6. After all pieces are fried, sprinkle salt and pepper to taste
