When I lived in a townhome with a less than optimal backyard for grilling for a few years, I never wanted to grill. But now that I live in a single family house with the perfect backyard for grilling, I began the hunt for a reliable BBQ grill. Locally available grill brands are Char-Broil, Broil King, and Weber. After some basic research online based on user reviews, I have concluded the following:

  • Char-Broil grill are the cheapest BBQ grills.
  • Char-Broil and Broil King have the most complaints of the bottom of the grill rusting through. There are also complaints for Weber, but not as many as Char-Broil and Broil King.
  • Weber grill prices are similar everywhere.
  • Buying a grill in-store means it is assembled, but possibly more difficult to transport. Buying a grill online means it will be shipped to your door, but assembly is required.
  • Cheaper grills have a higher chance of rusting, as more expensive grills tend to have better coating that is rust resistant.

Based on my basic research, I decided to purchase a reliable Weber grill. During the summer, I plan on grilling once a week, with an occasional weekend BBQ with friends. I imagine a two burner grill more than sufficient a majority of the time, and find the side burner useless. And so I decided on the Weber Spirit E-210 Grill from an online retailer WayFair.com (read about my order experience).

When the Weber Spirit E-210 arrived, it came in a well packaged box. Grill assembly was required. It took my wife and I just about an hour to put it all together. The instruction manual was well diagramed. The screws and washers are pre-divided by step, so hunting for the right screw was never a problem. The key during assembly (which is written in the manual in small print, but I missed), is to make the screws snug, but not to over tighten. If you plan on using the grill with liquid propane, be sure to install the propane tank holder. After installation, if your standard 20 pound liquid propane tank is falls passes through to the ground, then you've missed a step. Go back and check the installation manual. If you feel comfortable with carefully following instructions, assembling the Weber grill should not be an issue.

In terms of usage, the grill works well. Igniting the grill was easy. The grill quickly heated up to 400 degrees. And the dip pan collected all of the grease. Oddly, the knob handles are far too loose, but are angled so the knobs won't fall out. Over the course of 2 weeks, I've used the grill three times for steaks, chicken, sausages, and a variety of vegetables. Not once have I had any troubles. Though one of the pros of owning a grill is a simple clean up, I do plan on caring for the grill that includes:

  • The grill will be covered when not in use and stored in the backyard
  • During the rainy winter season, I plan on clearing space in the garage to store the BBQ.
  • Depending on use, I plan on occasionally cleaning the interior of the grill to reduce the odds of rusting

All in all, I am very happy with my Weber Spirit E-210 Grill. Though on the pricey side, I do recommend it. If you want to take a chance, I would recommend purchasing a Broil King (recommended by a friend) and avoid Char-Broil grills.
