Golden Gate Park (Pioneer Log Cabin Picnic Area)

John F Kennedy & Stow Lake Dr in San Francisco, California

A view of the grassy site that was reserved. The two grills and picnic tables are behind us! These are the picnic benches and grills. Notice the two large logs that divide the picnic area from the field. A few times, someone almost tripped over it while catching a football.

Travel Tips:

What is the approximate cost per person (with examples)?
  • Went on a corporate picnic, so the reservation for our group of ~30 people was $250.
What form of transportation did you take?
  • Our picnic was on a weekday (Tuesday), so there was plenty of parking for our car (carpooled) along Stow Lake Drive.
How long did you spend (in hours)?
  • We spent about 4-5 hours there. The space was enough to have a small game of flag football. Be wary of potholes in the grass.
What is your least favorite aspect?
  • For a picnic site, I am surprised there weren't any garbage cans. Remember to bring trash cans to carry out your garbage. Despite that name, not access to the log cabin (we knew it though).
